US survey finds spread of conspiracy theories about 9/11 attacks — Jerusalem Post
A US survey conducted by the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs (JCFA) showed that some respondents accept conspiracy theories concerning the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. As the Jerusalem Post reports, the study included 416 surveyed Muslim Americans and 429 non-Muslim respondents.
Who was named responsible
Official investigations established that Al-Qaeda was responsible for the September 11 attacks. According to the survey, 62.24% of surveyed non-Muslims and 23.56% of surveyed Muslim Americans named Al-Qaeda as responsible.
Among Muslim Americans, 18.51% of respondents believed that the US government or the CIA were responsible for the attacks. Another 27.40% named Zionists or Israel as responsible. These responses reflect the views of some survey participants, rather than established facts.
Age and political differences
Among respondents under the age of 30, 40% identified Al-Qaeda as responsible for the attacks, while 28.57% said they were unsure who carried them out. The study’s author, JCFA senior researcher Irwin J. Mansdorf, said the results point to a significant lack of knowledge about the events of September 11 among young people.

The study also recorded a difference in reactions to online commentator Hasan Piker’s statement that America deserved 9/11. Some 47.11% of surveyed Muslim Americans and 71.33% of non-Muslims disagreed or strongly disagreed with the statement. At the same time, 28.13% of Muslim Americans agreed or strongly agreed with it, while 24.76% took a neutral position.
Attitudes toward the school curriculum
The introduction of a mandatory standardized school curriculum about the September 11 attacks was supported by 62% of surveyed non-Muslims. Among Muslim Americans, 44.71% supported the idea, while more than one-third chose a neutral response.
According to Mansdorf, awareness of the events of September 11 needs to be strengthened, with attention paid not only to honoring the victims but also to the perpetrators of the attacks and their motives.
