The Order of the White Eagle was returned to the Office of the President of Poland and placed in storage
Poland has confirmed receipt of the Order of the White Eagle, which, according to media reports, was returned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The award will subsequently be transferred to the relevant government agency for safekeeping, where it will be preserved as one of the country’s highest honors.
According to him, the returned order will be transferred to the Office of Awards and Nominations, and the award itself will no longer be presented to anyone else.
“It will be placed in storage, where it will be kept with dignity and respect, as it is Poland’s highest and most important state award. It will not be awarded to anyone else,” Leskiewicz explained.
At the same time, the Polish president’s representative stated that he does not expect Polish-Ukrainian relations to deteriorate due to the situation with the award.
“President Karol Nawrocki clearly stated in his statement, published by the President’s Office on Friday, that the revocation of the Order of the White Eagle is not directed against Ukrainians, and that Russia is, in fact, the enemy of Ukraine and of all of free Europe and the free world,” Leskiewicz said.
In addition, the spokesperson noted that Karol Nawrocki had not received an invitation to the upcoming conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction.
“President Karol Nawrocki did not receive an invitation… therefore, neither the president nor any officials from the Office of the President will attend this conference,” he noted, adding that he considers this situation “extremely inappropriate.”
This was reported by Rafal Leskiewicz, spokesperson for Polish President Karol Nawrocki, according to Polsatnews.
On June 20, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko also announced his refusal of a Polish state order, emphasizing that this move was not directed against the Polish people; at the same time, he also made critical remarks about incumbent President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Earlier, Zelenskyy had sent the Order of the White Eagle to Nawrocki via Nova Poshta.
Following this, Leonid Kuchma also declined the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
Ukraine’s third president, Viktor Yushchenko, also declined the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
In addition, Borys Tarasyuk will return his Polish order due to Navrotsky’s policies.
