The Hainan Education Hub offers 337 joint courses
An international education hub in Hainan Province in southern China has brought together 30 Chinese and foreign universities. Students at these institutions can choose joint courses and access international educational resources without leaving the country, according to ECNS.
The Lian International Innovative Pilot Education Zone in Lingshui County offers more than 60 majors. The zone has approved 24 Sino-foreign educational institutions and programs. By 2026, it plans to attract more than 15,000 students and faculty members.
Students enrolled at one of the universities can choose courses from a list of 337 joint disciplines available within the education zone. In particular, at the Hainan International College of Beijing Sport University, some courses are taught in English by foreign instructors. Practical classes there include, among other things, cycling and diving.

Another model of international higher education is developing in Yangpu, in the city of Danzhou. There, Hainan University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld operates—the first higher education institution in China to independently establish a foreign university. It currently offers 11 bachelor’s degree programs in engineering, management, and economics.
The university emphasizes hands-on learning through projects, case studies, and collaboration with companies. Starting in their second year, students must complete 10 weeks of practical training at partner companies each semester.
