Pakistan carries out airstrike on Afghanistan’s capital in new escalation

Pakistan’s air force launched airstrikes on Afghanistan’s capital Kabul as well as on Kandahar and Paktia. Gunfire erupted near Afghanistan’s presidential palace in Kabul. The airstrikes also targeted a Taliban weapons depot in Nangarhar province. This signals a heightened conflict between the two neighbouring countries.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja M. Asif accused the Taliban of turning Afghanistan into an Indian colony that harbours terrorists. Pakistani authorities reported the death of 72 Afghan soldiers in border clashes. This conflict risks further destabilising the region and escalating military confrontation.

Going forward, tensions are likely to remain high as both sides hold serious grievances, and military clashes may intensify.
