The Pentagon is reviewing potential targets in Iran due to the dual-use nature of certain facilities

The U.S. Department of Defense is reviewing its list of potential targets in Iran, adding sites used by both civilians and the military to avoid accusations of war crimes.

This was reported by Politico.

According to two Pentagon officials, military planners are reviewing the list of potential targets for strikes because there are still strategically important sites in Iran that have not yet been attacked by the U.S. and Israel.

The Donald Trump administration finds itself in a difficult situation due to the limited number of options for pressuring Iran. A potential ground operation is unpopular among the U.S. public, and strikes on civilian infrastructure could be classified as war crimes.

Therefore, the Pentagon is considering energy facilities that supply fuel and electricity to both the civilian population and the Iranian military. Their dual use makes them legitimate targets, officials noted.

Uncertainty remains regarding where to draw the line between military and civilian facilities, such as desalination plants, which could be considered legitimate targets since the military also uses fresh water.

As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran’s leadership demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be unblocked by Tuesday, April 7.

On Friday, April 3, the U.S. Air Force destroyed a strategic bridge connecting the Iranian capital, Tehran, and the city of Karaj.

Recall that the IRGC announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and is threatening a “harsh response” to ships.

The Strait of Hormuz could also become the “Trump Strait.”
