The Pentagon plans to spend $400 million on aid to Ukraine by 2029 — Reuters
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has informed Congress that it will not use the entire $400 million allocated for aid to Ukraine by fiscal year 2029. Reuters reported this, citing a source familiar with the relevant letter from the Pentagon.
According to the news agency, the U.S. Department of Defense sent lawmakers a plan for the use of the funds back in May. The document stipulates that funding will be allocated throughout fiscal year 2026, and the final disbursement of aid will be completed by September 30, 2029.
At the same time, as Reuters notes, two months after the letter was sent, the funds have still not been allocated or contracted. This timeline has sparked discontent among Democrats and some Republicans, who consider the pace of aid delivery too slow given the ongoing war.
The funds in question amount to $400 million, earmarked for strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, including the procurement of weapons, ammunition, equipment, and spare parts, as well as payment for logistics and transportation services to deliver military aid.
Reuters also notes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet with Donald Trump at the White House, where he plans to raise the issue of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and cooperation in the field of drones.
