Greenland's negotiations with the U.S. are stalling due to the situation in Denmark — Bloomberg

Negotiations between Greenland and the United States have been complicated by the lack of a fully functioning government in Denmark, although the parties have nevertheless made some progress.

This was stated by Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, according to Bloomberg.

According to Nielsen, the talks have largely focused on regional security issues. He did not disclose details of the dialogue but noted that the parties had taken “some steps in the right direction.”

The prime minister also emphasized that the rhetoric in relations between the parties has become less harsh, and communication more constructive.

Greenland and Denmark began negotiations with the U.S. in January following President Donald Trump’s statements about his intention to establish control over the Arctic island.

Earlier, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that the Trump administration’s primary interest in Greenland is related to national security, not the extraction of rare earth or energy resources.

It should be noted that discussionsregarding Greenland are ongoing between Denmark and the U.S.

Earlier, Canada reaffirmed its commitment to NATO’s collective defense principle amid aggressive statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Greenland.
