Estonia’s first resident ambassador to Moldova presents credentials
In Chisinau, Estonia’s first resident ambassador to Moldova, Siiri Königsberg, presented her credentials to Moldovan President Maia Sandu. The ceremony took place on Monday, September 7. ERR News reports.
Support for Moldova’s European integration
During the meeting, Königsberg and Sandu discussed strengthening bilateral relations, Moldova’s accession to the European Union, and security issues. Estonia firmly supports Moldova’s European integration.
Estonia plans to officially open its embassy in Chisinau in October. Königsberg said that Tallinn seeks to provide Moldova with effective assistance by using its own experience and expertise in digital affairs and cybersecurity. She also stressed that EU enlargement strengthens security, prosperity, and the community of European values.

War and conference in Tallinn
The sides also addressed the war waged by the Russian Federation, an aggressor state, against Ukraine and its impact on Moldova, which borders Ukraine. The ambassador invited Moldova to take part in the Ukraine Recovery Conference, scheduled to be held in Tallinn in January 2027.
Siiri Königsberg has diplomatic experience as deputy permanent representative of Estonia to NATO, at the country’s representation to the EU, and in diplomatic missions in Stockholm and Oslo. She also chaired the EU Council working group on relations with ACP countries. In 2023–2026, Königsberg was director general of the Europe Department at Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
