South Korea explores using AI to analyze reservist training data
South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense has commissioned a study on creating an artificial intelligence-based system to collect and analyze data on reservist training. About 1.7 million reservists are involved in mobilization preparation and training programs in the country each year, The Korea Herald reports.
Analysis of training data
According to military officials, the army accumulates significant volumes of training records every year, but has not yet had a unified system that would allow this information to be systematically collected, classified, and analyzed to improve training and relevant policy.
As part of the project, the ministry is to examine how training data are generated, stored, and managed, as well as identify possible areas where information may be lost. The study also provides for the development of standardized indicators to assess training results.

Personalized training and security
A separate task will be to design a database that combines the training history of a specific reservist with data on their military specialty. In the future, this could become the basis for personalized training programs and improved assignments during wartime mobilization.
The ministry will also assess security risks associated with the use of commercial AI solutions and cloud technologies. Military training data are processed in closed internal networks, so additional protective measures must be proposed if necessary. South Korea has about 2.56 million reservists, while broader estimates of the military manpower reserve put the figure at approximately 3.1 million people.
