Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 over the Baltic Sea
Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over international waters in the Baltic Sea. The aircraft was flying without a flight plan and with its transponder turned off, according to Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
According to him, the incident occurred around noon, approximately 60 kilometers northwest of the city of Leba on the Baltic Sea coast. Two Polish fighter jets on standby were scrambled to intercept the aircraft, which was in international airspace.

Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that there was no violation of Poland’s airspace. He also stated that Poland is monitoring the situation in the Baltic Sea region and taking the necessary measures to protect its airspace and state border.
On July 31, Poland also intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea. Prior to that, the Polish Air Force had scrambled to intercept a pair of Russian Su-30SM2 fighter jets that had taken off from the Kaliningrad region.
