Poland will continue to provide military aid to Ukraine, despite criticism from opposition politicians. Support for Kyiv is one of the key elements of Poland’s own security.
“Despite your howling, despite your disinformation, we will continue to help Ukraine, which is at war. The more Russian missiles are shot down over Ukrainian territory, the smaller the threat to Poland will be,” Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized, addressing opposition lawmakers.
The minister noted that Poland has already transferred several interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems to Ukraine at the request of the United States.
“You can count the missiles in the warehouses, but Ukrainians can shoot down missiles flying toward Poland. I’d prefer that they be shot down over Ukrainian territory,” he stressed.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, criticism of this decision effectively amounts to criticism of the position of Poland’s strategic ally—the United States.
The defense minister stated that recently, part of the Polish opposition has stopped viewing Russia as the main threat.
“In the debate that has been ongoing since yesterday, many opposition politicians—from both Law and Justice and the Confederation—do not view the Russian Federation as a threat to Poland at all. For you, Russia is no longer an enemy. For some time now, Ukraine has become enemy number one,” he said.
The minister emphasized that after Russia shifted to a war economy, it became an even greater threat to both Poland and NATO as a whole.
He also recalled remarks by Samuela Torkowska, a candidate from the far-right “Confederation” party, who, after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, stated that she “would have welcomed the Russians with open arms” and would have asked them to “help denazify the Polish government.”
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, all evidence gathered by the Polish military and investigators confirms that the object that fell in the Lublin Voivodeship after violating Polish airspace was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.
“Don’t forget who is launching these missiles. Who is killing people in Ukraine,” the minister emphasized.
He also noted that in June 2026 alone, approximately 300 civilians were killed in Ukraine, and more than 2,000 people were wounded. According to him, this is the highest number of civilian casualties since April 2022.
Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that Russia is deliberately creating a threat near the Polish border.
“Why is Russia doing this? Why is it launching missiles and drones? It is deliberately provoking us,” he said.
The minister stressed that support for Ukraine remains an integral part of Poland’s national security strategy.
“Poland’s security strategy is to support Ukraine and keep Russia away from the Polish border, not to denigrate Ukrainians in Poland on a daily basis,” the official noted.
He also defended the Polish military, stressing that it is the military command—not politicians—that should make decisions regarding the use of weapons to destroy aerial targets.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the Polish government fully supports the decisions of the military leadership and assumes responsibility for the actions of the country’s Armed Forces.
