Poland and Philippines sign legal assistance agreement — Anadolu Agency

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Polish President Karol Nawrocki discussed bilateral cooperation in defense, trade and technology in Manila on October 6. The sides also signed an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. This was reported by Anadolu Agency, citing the Philippine Presidential Communications Office.

Defense cooperation

The sides discussed existing and potential cooperation in defense and security, trade, industry, agriculture, science and technology, information and communications technology, energy, law, and humanitarian contacts.

Marcos said that the sides noted the steady development of defense cooperation, including the Philippines' acquisition of S-70 Black Hawk multirole helicopters. The countries plan to continue the work of the Philippines-Poland Joint Committee on Defense Cooperation through joint exercises and educational programs.

Trade, technology and the region

The heads of state agreed to strengthen agricultural cooperation, including in trade, market access, sanitary and phytosanitary issues, agricultural research and education. They also welcomed stronger cooperation in science, technology and innovation, including in space technology.

Marcos and Nawrocki discussed challenges in the South China Sea and developments in the security situation in Ukraine and Europe. They reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law in international relations and the peaceful settlement of conflicts, and also discussed opportunities to strengthen ties between ASEAN, which the Philippines currently chairs, and Poland.

Nawrocki became the first Polish leader to make an official visit to the Philippines. Since 2025, Poland has participated as an observer in the annual Balikatan exercises involving the United States and the Philippines.
