Poland has called for the protection of small farmers in Ukraine as the country joins the EU
Poland has called for the inclusion of mechanisms to protect small farms in Ukraine and Poland during negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
Agnieszka Maliszewska, Director General of the Polish Dairy Chamber, stated that Warsaw supports Ukraine’s European integration and is ready to share its own experience. At the same time, she said, the accession rules must be fair and must not lead to the disappearance of small farms.
She recalled that after Poland’s accession to the EU, many small farms and processing enterprises were unable to meet the new standards. Maliszewska also emphasized that Ukrainian and European farmers are already competing with one another, so further EU expansion must be based on transparent rules and a level playing field.
