Demand for international air cargo transport from China picked up in July
In July, international markets remained one of the main drivers of growth in China’s air cargo sector. Demand was driven by cross-border e-commerce and the artificial intelligence equipment industry, according to ECNS, citing the Air Logistics Branch of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing.
Five airport operators whose shares are listed on the A-share market collectively handled 860,100 metric tons of cargo in July. This group included Shanghai Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Shenzhen Airport, Xiamen Airport, and Hainan Airport.

International routes accounted for 576,000 metric tons of cargo, or 66.97% of the total volume handled by these five operators. According to an industry organization’s assessment, this underscores the importance of overseas markets for China’s air logistics sector.
Nationwide, more than 41 additional round-trip flights are expected to launch each week. These routes are planned to primarily transport cross-border e-commerce shipments, clothing, fresh seafood, electronic components, and other high-value cargo.
