The Czech Prime Minister called on the president to decline participation in the NATO summit
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš stated that he would like President Petr Pavel to voluntarily decline to attend this year’s NATO summit, even though he has already been included in the official delegation.
According to Babiš, there is an ongoing dispute between the government and the president regarding the head of state’s participation in the summit. The prime minister suggested that Pavel represent the Czech Republic at next year’s NATO summit instead.
Babiš explained his position by citing differences with the president on key agenda items, particularly regarding defense funding and continued support for Ukraine.
The prime minister also stressed that the government considers it necessary for its representatives to participate in all official summit events.
