Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu criticizes opposition alliance — Anadolu Agency

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized five opposition leaders who agreed to coordinate their actions ahead of the Knesset elections on October 27. The politicians identified replacing the current government as their shared main goal, Anadolu Agency reports.

Meeting of opposition leaders

According to Israel’s Channel 12 television channel, the meeting took place at the Tel Aviv home of Yair Lapid, leader of the Yesh Atid party. It was also attended by Gadi Eisenkot of the Yashar party, Naftali Bennett of the Together party, Avigdor Lieberman of Yisrael Beiteinu, and Yair Golan of the Democrats party.

In a document released after the meeting, the leaders said that despite ideological differences, they would seek to replace the current government. They also pledged not to campaign against one another until a new government is formed, to work to increase voter turnout, and to expand support for the opposition bloc.

Netanyahu’s reaction

Netanyahu said on social media platform X that Eisenkot allegedly sought to form a government together with Lapid, Golan, Bennett, Lieberman, and Arab parties. He added that only a strong Likud would stop them, referring to his right-wing political party.

Netanyahu also published an AI-altered group photo from the opposition leaders’ meeting, adding United Arab List leader Mansour Abbas and Hadash-Ta’al head Ahmad Tibi to it. At the same time, the five opposition politicians did not agree on a joint candidate for prime minister.
