Prime Minister Salam calls for Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon — Anadolu Agency

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, during a visit to Nabatieh on October 2, called for securing Israel’s full withdrawal from Lebanese territory and strengthening state authority. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.

One army and state authority

According to Salam, Lebanon must mobilize all available resources and support to ensure Israel’s full withdrawal and rebuild a functioning state with one army and a single decision-making center.

He said such an approach could protect the country from new wars and remove the grounds for a new attack or an expansion of the current assault.

Priorities for the south of the country

Salam named ending Israeli attacks, Israel’s full withdrawal, the safe return of displaced residents to their homes, and the restoration of their livelihoods and communities in southern Lebanon as top priorities.

The prime minister stressed that the country cannot wait for a broader regional settlement, as it may not happen or could be delayed for years. According to the agency, since March 2, at least 4,386 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon, another 12,413 have been injured, and more than one million people have been displaced.

On June 26, Beirut and Tel Aviv signed, through US mediation, a framework formula providing for Israel’s gradual withdrawal from Lebanese territory. Despite this, Israeli attacks continue, according to Anadolu Agency, and Israel still occupies areas in the south of the country.
