Palestinian prime minister calls to turn recognition into practical steps — Anadolu Agency

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, speaking at a meeting of foreign ministers in New York, United States, called for diplomatic recognition of Palestine to be backed by concrete political and economic steps. Anadolu Agency reports.

Mustafa said that formal recognition of Palestine should facilitate its accession to international financial institutions and obtaining full UN membership. He also called on countries that have not yet done so to recognize Palestinian sovereignty without delay.

Financial crisis and situation on the ground

According to the Palestinian prime minister, the time has come to move from building state institutions to the actual implementation of statehood so that they can exercise sovereign powers. Mustafa also said that Israel's plans in the E1 area cut off East Jerusalem and undermine the human and territorial foundations of the two-state solution.

He reported that the Palestinian administration faces a monthly funding shortfall of $200 million due to the withholding of clearance revenues. The unemployment rate, according to his data, has reached 50% overall and nearly 78% in the Gaza Strip.

Gaza recovery and international support

Nikolay Mladenov, the High Representative for Gaza in the US-led Board of Peace, announced a $2.45 billion early recovery package. It covers 66 urgent projects to be administered by the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. Mladenov stressed that reconstruction cannot replace a political settlement and depends on the security situation and disarmament.

UN Assistant Secretary-General Ramiz Alakbarov drew attention to harsh humanitarian conditions in southern Gaza, where communities face the threat of winter flooding due to untreated wastewater and household waste. He called for easing restrictions on the import of dual-use goods for humanitarian aid.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that Gaza must not be politically or territorially separated from the West Bank and East Jerusalem. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas confirmed the European Union's support for future Palestinian legislative elections, demilitarization, and the full withdrawal of Israeli troops.
