Ghanaian President Mahama dissolves National Cathedral board of trustees — MyJoyOnline

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate dissolution of the board of trustees of the Ghana National Cathedral project, which oversaw the suspended project. The decision was communicated to the board in a letter dated September 18, 2026, signed by Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mahama Ayariga.

Handover of the site to the ministry

Following the dissolution, board members were instructed to work with the project consultant and formally hand over the National Cathedral site to the ministry by October 31, 2026. The letter states that the handover is needed for the government to determine the future of the project.

The letter was addressed to the board’s chair, Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, and its members. Copies were also sent to the President’s Secretary, the Chief of Staff at Jubilee House, the Deputy Minister, the ministry’s Chief Director, and the Executive Director of the Ghana National Cathedral Secretariat.

On behalf of the president, Ayariga thanked the board of trustees members for their service and commitment to advancing the Christian faith in the country. Following the formal handover of the site, the government is expected to determine the next steps regarding the project, MyJoyOnline reports.
