A meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense, held in the "Ramstein" format, has begun in Berlin. During the meeting, participants are discussing the expansion of military aid, including increased supplies of drones and long-range missiles.
According to a correspondent for "EP," German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and British Defense Minister John Giley made these remarks while opening the "Ramstein" meeting on April 15.
Ramstein participants are discussing how to supply Ukraine with more drones and missiles.
“We know that Ukraine needs our help in one vital area above all else, and that is drones. Drones are defining the battlefield in this war, led by Minister Fedorov’s excellent new combat plan, about which we will hear more today,” said Gilley, announcing a speech by Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, in which he is set to discuss the results of implementing Ukraine’s war plan since the previous Ramstein meeting on February 12.
The British minister reported that representatives from 50 countries are participating in the Contact Group meeting.
“This will be backed by 3 billion pounds in military support,” the British minister added.
According to him, the drones will cover a range of capabilities, from long-range strikes to attacks and surveillance. Maritime drones will also be provided—"all battle-tested, which will enhance Ukraine’s ability to repel the Russian attack."
“We will also provide hundreds of thousands of artillery shells and thousands of air defense missiles. Together, our goal is to help Ukraine defend its territory and strike back at Russia,” John Gili emphasized.
Boris Pistorius also announced that Germany is “increasing its contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.”
"Germany will supply several hundred Patriot guided missiles for air defense as part of the Enduring Action on Air Defense initiative. In addition, the IRIS-T air defense systems provided by Germany will be supplemented by the delivery of additional launchers," Pistorius said.
The 34th "Ramstein" meeting on support for Ukraine has begun in Berlin.
Also, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset will again not participate in the meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense, instead sending his deputy.
Additionally, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will join the meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense.
