Russia will sell gas to China at a discount until 2029, according to Bloomberg

The Russian Federation plans to supply natural gas to China at prices significantly lower than those for European markets, at least until 2029.

This was reported by Bloomberg.

According to the publication, the price difference between supplies to China and exports to Turkey and accessible European markets remains substantial. Previous estimates by Russian economic agencies indicated that gas for China could cost tens of percent less than for European consumers.

Specifically, it was previously projected that the price gap would range from approximately 27% to 38% in China’s favor. In some scenarios, the price for the Chinese market could be nearly half that of the European market.

Analysts note that this policy reflects a long-term reorientation of Russian energy exports toward Asia following the loss of a significant portion of the European market amid the war against Ukraine.

At the same time, increased supplies to China cannot fully compensate for losses in Europe—neither in terms of volume nor profitability. Furthermore, existing contracts remain long-term and are based on energy agreements already concluded between the parties.

As a reminder, following the weakening of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s position, Russia is attempting to find a new ally within the European Union—the Kremlin’s attention is focused on Bulgaria.

A Russian company has gained access to the development of the Velyko-Tokmak manganese deposit in the occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, where geological exploration and preparations for large-scale extraction have already begun. The project is considered strategically important due to its vast raw material reserves, but remains risky due to the war and sanctions pressure, according to Russian media reports.
