Rima Hassan files complaint against French interior minister — Anadolu Agency

In France, French-Palestinian Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan filed a complaint with the Court of Justice of the Republic against Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez. She accuses him of a possible breach of the secrecy of an investigation being conducted against her.

Hassan said on social media platform X that she filed the complaint together with her lawyer, Vincent Brengarth. The Court of Justice of the Republic has jurisdiction to hear cases against government members, Anadolu Agency reports.

Lawyer's statements

Brengarth told journalists that the complaint concerns the alleged disclosure of information protected by investigative secrecy. According to him, the defense expects the application to be examined and does not consider it likely that the Court of Justice of the Republic will refuse to open an investigation.

The lawyer also claims that two French media outlets confirmed a leak of information about the investigation from Nuñez and French Justice Ministry spokesperson Sacha Straub-Kahn. The defense seeks to determine on what legal grounds the interior minister had access to information about the investigation and whether he provided journalists with additional information.

Surveillance data

The complaint was filed after a publication by the French investigative outlet Mediapart. It reported that Paris judicial police officers had been tracking Hassan's phone activity and movements since January 1, including before the formal opening of the investigation.

According to Mediapart, investigators used geolocation data and requested information from carriers, including the French railway company SNCF, the international rail service Thalys, and the MEP's telephone service provider. The outlet claims that this information was used to reconstruct the history of her travel and contacts.

In April, Hassan was detained on suspicion of “terrorism propaganda” after she shared on social media statements by Kozo Okamoto, a former member of the Japanese Red Army who expressed support for Palestine.
