Rutte will travel to Washington amid threats to withdraw from NATO

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will visit Washington next week, where he will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.

This was reported by Reuters, citing Alliance spokeswoman Alison Hart and a White House representative.

Details of the upcoming visit have not yet been disclosed. At the same time, NATO emphasized that Rutte’s trip to the U.S. had been “long planned.”

The talks are expected to take place against the backdrop of Trump’s controversial statements about a possible U.S. withdrawal from the Alliance. These signals came after several weeks of his criticism of allies who refused to join a military operation to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

Thus, the upcoming meeting could be pivotal for future relations between Washington and its NATO allies, as well as determine the U.S. position on participation in the Alliance.

U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO. According to him, this is because the Alliance did not join the U.S. operation against Iran.

The United Kingdom has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the country’s possible withdrawal from NATO. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the country’s commitment to the Alliance and assured that he would not allow the country to be drawn into war.
