Russia is preparing hybrid attacks on NATO's eastern flank — Fox News

Latvian intelligence warns of possible hybrid provocations by Russia against the Baltic states and Poland. According to the agency, this involves the potential use of drones and other means of pressure to influence NATO allies’ support for Ukraine.

“We are seeing signs that Russia is preparing military provocations against the Baltic states or Poland. This is not about a conventional war, since Russia is currently incapable of waging one, but rather about hybrid attacks—using missiles, drones, or other means designed to send a message: stop supporting Ukraine, or else you’ll face problems of your own,” stated representatives of Latvian intelligence.

Latvian intelligence believes that Putin is not only looking for ways to force NATO countries to abandon their support for Ukraine, but is also receiving distorted assessments of the situation within his own system, which increases the risk of misjudging the West’s resolve.

“The greatest concern is the risk of miscalculation. Russian government agencies tell Putin what he wants to hear, and this creates a dangerous vicious cycle that could lead to rash and senseless decisions,” Latvian intelligence officials stated.

“We are seeing more and more signs that Putin wants to hear only good news. He is isolated, and this further complicates the decision-making process, as decisions are not based on the actual situation,” intelligence officials added.

The warning from Latvian intelligence aligns with statements made by Polish officials whom Fox News interviewed in Poland in June. According to them, Russia’s hybrid war against NATO’s eastern flank is already underway. Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki pointed to killings, drone activity, cyberattacks, and attacks on critical infrastructure within NATO territory, including, he said, a Russian-orchestrated cyberattack on Poland’s energy infrastructure, which aimed to “leave part of Poland without electricity.”

Latvian intelligence also believes that Western sanctions are having a real impact on Russia, despite Moscow’s public claims that it has successfully weathered this pressure, Fox News reports.
