Russia will restrict imports of vegetables and berries from Armenia

Starting May 30, Russia is imposing restrictions on imports of certain fruits and vegetables from Armenia. The ban applies to fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs, and strawberries.

This was reported by the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor).

The agency stated that the decision was made due to “increasing violations” during the supply of Armenian products and an alleged threat to Russia’s phytosanitary status.

The Russian agency also claims that the Armenian side has not rectified previously identified violations, and that certain suppliers are “evading phytosanitary quarantine controls.”

Against this backdrop, Russian media reported that Moscow is also considering revising agreements on the supply of resources to Armenia due to Yerevan’s growing ties with the European Union.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated that Armenia allegedly has no plans to leave the Eurasian Economic Union, as it benefits from preferential trade within the bloc.

Earlier, Armenia appealed to the EU to send a rapid response team to counter Russian influence.
