Russia expelled two Italian diplomats in response to Rome's actions
Moscow has decided to expel two Italian diplomats from Russia. This was announced by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
According to him, the decision was in response to Rome’s move in early July to expel two military attachés from the Russian embassy. The Italian side accused them of espionage.
“The Russian Federation has unjustifiably expelled the Italian military attaché in Moscow along with one of his staff members,” Tajani wrote on social media platform X on Monday, July 20.
According to the foreign minister, this is an act of blatant retaliation for the expulsion from Italy of two Russian military attachés who were caught red-handed engaging in espionage activities detrimental to Italy’s national security.

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to expel two military attachés from the Russian Embassy in Rome. According to Italian officials, the diplomats are believed to be involved in espionage activities on behalf of Moscow.
As a reminder, a former intelligence officer was detained in Italy on suspicion of spying for Russia.
