Retail turnover in Latvia rose by 3.5% in August — LSM English

In Latvia, retail turnover in August 2026 increased by 3.5% compared with August of the previous year, adjusted for calendar variations and at constant prices. This was reported by LSM English, citing data from the country’s Central Statistical Bureau released on September 29.

Trends by category

The volume of retail trade in food products increased by 2.3% year on year. Sales of non-food products excluding motor fuel rose by 3.9%, while fuel sales increased by 4.3%.

Compared with August 2025, sales through mail orders and the internet grew the most, by 15.3%. Retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods increased by 8.1%, while sales of information and communication equipment in specialized stores rose by 6.7%. At the same time, trade through kiosks and markets declined by 9.3%.

Annual and monthly changes

At current prices, total retail turnover year on year, adjusted for calendar factors, increased by 7.1%.

At the same time, in August compared with July, retail turnover decreased by 1.4% after seasonal adjustment and at constant prices. Sales of food products declined by 0.3%, non-food products excluding fuel by 1.1%, and fuel by 4.3%.

The largest monthly increase was recorded in sales of goods for culture and recreation, by 5.1%, as well as internet and mail orders, by 2.5%. The most notable decline was recorded in specialized stores of information and communication equipment, by 4.7%.
