Rubio: The approach proposed in Anchorage was unacceptable to Ukraine
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the approach proposed last year in Anchorage by representatives of Russia—the aggressor state—had failed because it was unacceptable to Ukraine. He made these remarks during a press briefing in Manila, where he was meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to “European Truth.”
Rubio was asked how relevant the Russian side’s proposals—referred to as “3 + 2” and concerning the division of territories—remain. According to him, these attempts were unsuccessful because a peace agreement cannot be concluded without the consent of both parties, and Ukraine did not agree to such proposals.
“The proposals that were reported—they call it ‘3 + 2,’ the division of territories—these attempts have failed. After all, a peace agreement cannot be reached unless both sides agree to it, and the Ukrainians did not agree to it. That is why these efforts have not yielded results,” the U.S. Secretary of State stated.
Rubio added that new proposals and concepts are needed to achieve peace. In his view, the previous proposal was unacceptable to Ukraine at the time and may be even less acceptable to it now. According to Rubio, the U.S. is ready to offer new ideas under the right conditions and in the appropriate format.
During his meeting with Lavrov in Manila, Rubio also discussed the need to end the war against Ukraine.
