Rubio responded to Russia's calls to evacuate U.S. diplomats from Kyiv

Russia regularly launches attacks on Kyiv while at the same time urging foreign diplomats to leave the Ukrainian capital. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States will make its own decisions regarding when its diplomats should leave Kyiv.

“Russia has been urging foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv for several months now. We have an embassy there, and we will determine for ourselves whether it is safe for them to remain there,” he emphasized.

Rubio noted that the U.S. will reconsider its decision if the situation changes and diplomats face a real danger.

“We assess the security of every diplomatic mission around the world on a daily basis. If a threat arises that, in our view, requires a change in our position, we will do so,” the U.S. Secretary of State said.

This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to reports citing his press conference.

The new U.S. Chargé d’Affaires has begun his mission in Kyiv.
