Train service in Germany was disrupted due to a theft on the railway
In Germany, train service between Hanover, Wolfsburg, and Berlin has been severely disrupted after unknown individuals stole parts of the overhead power lines. This caused power outages, forcing the evacuation of passengers from trains, and delays and cancellations continue.
A routine night train journey on one of Germany’s most important rail corridors turned into transportation chaos after unknown individuals dismantled and stole anchor fasteners from the overhead contact line, causing damage to the infrastructure and effectively halting normal service between Hanover, Wolfsburg, and Berlin.
Deutsche Bahn reported that the incident occurred near the Karl-Wiechert-Allee stop in Hanover, where the power line was partially destroyed due to interference with the overhead contact system, and the federal police are already investigating the incident as aggravated theft and dangerous interference with railway operations.
It is also noted that during the night, the pantograph on an ICE train in this area suddenly detached, after which about 200 passengers had to be evacuated from the cars, as it was impossible to continue the journey due to damage to approximately 100 meters of the overhead contact line.
Repair crews are already working at the accident site, trying to restore the infrastructure as quickly as possible, and Deutsche Bahn says it plans to restore normal service by evening, although delays, cancellations, and route changes continue to affect passengers in the region.
