Romania destroyed a marine drone near the Neptun Deep gas platform
The Romanian military shot down a maritime drone that was spotted a few hundred meters from the Neptun Deep platform—a major gas project in the Black Sea. The drone was shot down by a Romanian F-16 fighter jet, according to The Guardian.
The platform is located approximately 80 miles east of the city of Constanța. Romanian Defense Minister Radu Mirucea stated that the decision to destroy the drone was made after analyzing the situation and coordinating with the country’s president. According to him, this was necessary to protect the several hundred people working on the platform, as well as critical infrastructure.

Miruce also reported that Romanian officials confirmed with Kyiv that the drone was not of Ukrainian origin. According to The Guardian, this strongly suggests possible involvement by Russia, the aggressor state, amid escalating tensions in the region’s waters.
Earlier this month, Romanian military divers destroyed two Gerbera-type drones that were drifting in the country’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea near the same Neptun Deep gas project.
