Saudi Arabia reportedly offered Houthis a truce — Jerusalem Post
Saudi Arabia has conveyed to the Houthis in Yemen, through Oman, a proposal for a two-week ceasefire and the start of direct negotiations between Riyadh and the group’s leadership. This was reported by the Jerusalem Post, citing the Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar, which is linked to Hezbollah.
Terms of the proposal
According to Al Akhbar, during the truce the sides were to discuss the Houthis’ humanitarian demands and, before the end of the two-week period, seek to reach a comprehensive agreement. Sources at the Lebanese outlet claim that the proposal was formulated after a series of contacts between Saudi Arabia and the United States, Egypt, Pakistan and Oman.
Oman, which has played a central mediating role in contacts between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in recent years, was tasked with delivering the initiative to Sanaa. According to Al Akhbar, the Houthis have not yet provided a final response. At the same time, they continue to demand a comprehensive settlement that would include ending the war, lifting the blockade and resolving humanitarian issues.

Escalation and contacts with the United States
The report about the initiative emerged amid an escalation in fighting in Yemen and tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia. According to the Jerusalem Post, Houthi forces have captured strategic areas along the Red Sea coast in recent weeks and have also carried out missile and drone attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia.
Riyadh accused the Houthis of attacks on civilian and economic facilities in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan and Najran, as well as of posing a threat to commercial shipping in the Red Sea. A statement by the Saudi authorities last week said that 73 civilians, including women and children, were injured during one of the waves of attacks.
At the same time, secret talks between US representatives and senior Houthi officials took place in Oman, Reuters reported. According to its information, the meeting was held at the US Embassy in Muscat with the assistance of the Omani government. The Houthis told the American side that they intended to adhere to the ceasefire reached with Washington in 2025 and not attack US vessels. Saudi Arabia has not officially confirmed the details of the proposal published by Al Akhbar.
