Switzerland will allocate 50 million francs for Ukraine's recovery

Ukraine and Switzerland have signed a memorandum on a new phase of support for recovery. As part of the third call for investment projects, 50 million Swiss francs in grant assistance has been allocated.

This was reported with reference to the website of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.

This time, the main focus will be on supporting private businesses rather than state infrastructure, a government representative said.

New focus: the private sector

On April 30, Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Oleksiy Sobolev and Swiss Federal Council Delegate for Ukraine Jacques Herber signed a Memorandum between the Ministry of Economy and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The document launches the third call for reconstruction projects in cooperation with the Swiss private sector.

“While the previous phase focused primarily on the reconstruction of public and municipal infrastructure, we are now placing a systematic emphasis on supporting the private sector and market-based solutions. Together with the Ministry of Economy, this grant program in Ukraine will also be coordinated by UkraineInvest,” emphasized Oleksiy Sobolev.

Projects in the new competition will focus on the following sectors:

  • construction and infrastructure;
  • mechanical engineering and industrial production;
  • renewable energy;
  • agribusiness;
  • IT and digitalization.

Previous calls for proposals: record-breaking business interest

Following the first call for proposals, 12 projects totaling 93 million Swiss francs are already being funded and implemented in the fields of energy, housing, transportation, healthcare, and humanitarian demining. The second call for proposals attracted even greater interest: it received 37 proposals with a total request of 443 million francs—nearly three times the available budget.

In addition to signing the memorandum, Sobolev and Herber discussed the possibility of Switzerland joining the Industrial Alliance, which Ukraine is forming together with partners as part of the “Industrial Ramstein” initiative. Germany recently officially joined this program.
