Sweden is not afraid of Russia's reaction to the transfer of Gripen jets to Ukraine, says the country's prime minister

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that Stockholm and other countries in the region are prepared for possible actions by Russia in response to their support for Ukraine, particularly in the event of the transfer of Gripen fighter jets.

He made these remarks during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Uppsala.

Christersson noted that Sweden fully understands Moscow’s attitude toward countries that are helping Ukraine.

“We know very well what Russia thinks about countries that provide assistance to Ukraine. This will not surprise us,” the prime minister said.

He also mentioned countering Russia’s “shadow fleet” in the Baltic Sea and emphasized that countries in the region are prepared for potential hybrid threats.

“All countries in our region are well prepared for various Russian reactions, hybrid threats, and the continuation of any other such actions. Therefore, this doesn’t really change anything in particular,” Kristersson stated.

The Swedish government plans to transfer several Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine. These are Gripen C and Gripen D variants.

As a reminder, Spain will transfer 100 VAMTAC armored vehicles and a batch of artillery ammunition to Ukraine in 2026.
