Slovenian Parliament Approves Opening of Case Against Former Prime Minister – Politico
The Slovenian Parliament has authorized the prosecutor’s office to open a criminal case against former Prime Minister Robert Golob on charges of improper interference in police personnel appointments in 2022.
All 75 members of parliament present, including Golob himself, voted against granting him parliamentary immunity. The case is based on statements by former Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar, who reported pressure from the head of government and resigned in December 2022.
Robert Golob rejects all charges and stated that he seeks the swiftest possible court hearing and will not hide behind his immunity. The Ljubljana District Court launched an investigation in October 2025, but the proceedings required the lifting of his immunity after he was elected to parliament. Currently, the “Movement for Freedom,” which he leads, is Slovenia’s largest opposition party.
