Cologne Cathedral has introduced an admission fee for visitors

Cologne Cathedral has introduced an admission fee for visitors

One of Germany’s most famous tourist landmarks—Cologne Cathedral—began charging an admission fee for visitors in July. The ticket price is 12 euros, and the proceeds will go toward the preservation and maintenance of this historic landmark.

From now on, tourists must purchase a 12-euro ticket to visit the interior of Cologne Cathedral.

The cathedral’s administration explained that the proceeds from ticket sales will be used to protect, restore, and maintain this world-famous landmark in good condition.

Despite the introduction of an admission fee, certain categories of visitors will be able to enter the cathedral free of charge.

In particular, free admission will be available on certain religious and national holidays, as well as to worshippers attending services. At the same time, only certain areas of the cathedral will be accessible to them, and they must enter through the north entrance; this also applies to children under 13 and people with disabilities.

The introduction of an admission fee is intended to help ensure the long-term preservation of one of Germany’s most iconic architectural and cultural landmarks, which welcomes millions of tourists from around the world each year.

Earlier, in Italy’s Cinque Terre National Park, the administration imposed strict financial penalties on travelers who choose to wear open-toed summer shoes for walks.
