Hundreds of firefighters in Paris blocked a ring road to demand more funding — BFM
On September 29, about a hundred firefighters blocked traffic on the Paris Ring Road. They demanded that the government increase funding for their sector.
Firefighters have been staging a protest near the Eiffel Tower since Sunday, September 27, demanding more resources and funding following this summer’s massive wave of fires.
And on Tuesday, September 29, representatives of the emergency services joined striking civil servants and marched alongside the inter-union association of firefighters. According to the union, about 8,000 firefighters took part in the demonstration.
The union decided to protest after the draft law “Modernization of Civil Security 2” (MOSC2) was presented, as it did not meet the demands of representatives from the firefighting sector.
The unions’ demands include hiring at least 20,000 professional firefighters, increasing funding, reforming the professional firefighter system, raising the hazard pay for working in fire conditions to 30% of an employee’s gross salary, and other measures.
