Singer Amy Shark to perform at NRL final in tribute to Jai Arrow — ABC News Australia

In Australia, singer Amy Shark will headline the musical performance before the National Rugby League (NRL) final, dedicated to former South Sydney Rabbitohs player Jai Arrow. She will be joined by musicians from The Screaming Jets, electronic duo Peking Duk, and rock bands Grinspoon and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers.

As ABC News reports, an Australian supergroup will perform a series of covers during the tribute to Arrow on the field at Stadium Australia. The planned songs include Gerry and the Pacemakers’ You’ll Never Walk Alone, also known as the anthem of Liverpool football club.

Tribute to Jai Arrow

Arrow previously told ABC that he knew nothing about the plans for his lap of honour at Stadium Australia on Sunday. Earlier this year, he left the NRL after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

According to ABC, the performers’ fees will reportedly be donated to initiatives related to the disease. Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’landys also said that the league would give $100,000 to Arrow’s family.

Replacement for the cancelled headliner

The new musical lineup was announced after NRL negotiations with singer Tones And I over a pre-final performance failed to produce a result. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the issue concerned the NRL’s insistence that she perform her hit Dance Monkey, which the artist declined to do.

At the same time, Tones And I’s management said that due to prior commitments on a US tour with Macklemore, the singer could not accept the offer made in September. V’landys noted that the funds allocated for the pre-match entertainment program, worth almost $1 million, are planned to be directed to junior rugby league.
