The U.S. has eased export restrictions on chips and drones for the UAE — FT

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has eased export controls on the United Arab Emirates, granting the country access to advanced American microchips, drones, and other dual-use technologies.

The U.S. Department of Commerce stated that the decision was made in light of the UAE’s status as an important defense partner and its support for U.S. national security interests, particularly during operations against Iran.

Under the new rules, the UAE government and U.S.-approved companies will be able to obtain advanced AI chips, servers, drones, certain commercial satellites, spacecraft, and other high-tech goods without individual licenses.

At the same time, the decision has drawn criticism from Democrats in the U.S. Congress and some experts. They have expressed concern about possible risks to national security, particularly due to the potential leakage of sensitive U.S. technology to China.
