The U.S. and Iran Will Set Up a $300 Billion Fund to Revive the Economy — Reuters
The framework agreement between the U.S. and Iran provides for the creation of a $300 billion private investment fund. According to Reuters, the fund is intended to support the recovery and development of the Iranian economy and attract international capital to the country’s key projects.
More than $150 billion of the planned amount has already been committed by investors from the U.S., the Persian Gulf states, Asia, South America, and Africa.
The fund will be part of a broader agreement between Washington and Tehran following the conclusion of a framework agreement to end the war, restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and resolve disputes surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.
According to Reuters, the fund will not be financed with public funds and will operate as a private investment vehicle. The funds are planned to be directed toward the energy, transportation, logistics, and industrial sectors.
The agency’s sources note that Tehran initially demanded $400 billion in compensation from the U.S. for war-related damages, but Washington rejected this approach. Instead, the parties agreed to establish a separate investment fund.
The mechanism is expected to become operational only after the signing of a final agreement between the U.S. and Iran. According to the preliminary plan, after signing the memorandum, the parties will have 60 days to agree on specific projects and the fund’s governance structure, the agency reports.
