The U.S. has removed a number of Russians, vessels, and companies from its SDN sanctions lists

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has updated its sanctions lists and removed seven Russian citizens, two Russian vessels, and two Turkish companies from them.

The decision was made regarding the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list, which provides for the freezing of assets and a ban on financial transactions with the U.S. financial system.

The following Russian citizens were removed from the sanctions list:

  • Ivan Potanin—son of oligarch Vladimir Potanin, head of the Interros holding company, and president of Norilsk Nickel
  • German Bilous — Deputy Chairman of the Board of Novikombank
  • Irina Kremleva — a member of the board of directors of Otkritie Bank
  • Mikhail Klyukin — member of the board of Sovcombank
  • Viktor Nikolaev — member of the board of FC Otkritie Bank
  • Nadezhda Cherkasova — Member of the Management Board of FC Otkritie Bank
  • Maksim Smirnov — Russian citizen

Also removed from the sanctions list are two Russian vessels—the “Gennady Yegorov” and the “Vyacheslav Arshinov”— two Turkish companies: elevator manufacturer IDA Asansor, which had previously been accused of circumventing sanctions and supplying products to the Russian defense industry, and DEIN DANISMANLIK PAZARLAMA VE TICARET ANONIM SIRKETI

The U.S. Treasury Department did not specify the reasons for lifting sanctions on the listed individuals and companies.

This is stated in a press release from the U.S. Treasury Department.

As a reminder, European Union countries agreed on an unprecedented decision regarding sanctions policy against Russia—sectoral economic restrictions will be extended not for six months, as previously, but for a full year.

As a reminder, at the summit in Brussels on June 18, the European Union decided for the first time to extend sanctions against Russia not for the standard six months, but for a full year. In doing so, the EU is moving away from its previous practice of regularly reviewing sanctions every six months.

The EU Council is expected to officially approve the new sanctions package in the coming weeks, according to Deutsche Welle.
