The Trump administration has requested $87 billion from Congress following the war with Iran

The White House has requested $87.6 billion from Congress, most of which is intended to replenish the Pentagon’s stockpiles following the U.S. military campaign against Iran.

The Office of Management and Budget submitted the supplemental spending request on Wednesday, following the approval by both chambers of Congress of a war powers resolution intended to limit the president’s actions against Iran.

The funding request primarily covers expenses incurred by the Department of Defense as part of Operation “Epic Fury” against Tehran, including $67 billion to “fund military personnel and readiness costs, operational costs for replenishing stockpiles.”

The request also includes a number of other items, including aid to American farmers, assistance in response to the Ebola crisis in Africa, and other needs.

“I urge Congress to act as quickly as possible on these important and urgent requests,” said Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought in a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson.

It is unclear how quickly both chambers will be able to respond to the White House’s request, or whether Congress will even consider the matter. Securing funding will be difficult, as many lawmakers may view any vote as a test of their support for the war effort, PBS News reports.
