Protests have been announced in Gdańsk ahead of a conference on Ukraine
On the opening day of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) in Gdańsk, Poland, two protests are planned in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision to bestow the honorary title “Heroes of the UPA” on a Special Operations Forces unit.
The first demonstration is expected at 9:00 a.m. local time at the Fish Market in the city’s historic center.
The event is organized by the “Poland Unites Us” Foundation, led by Natalia Nitek-Plaszyńska, a member of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Sejmik.
She stated: “Stop the ‘Bandera-ization’ of Ukraine—we demand historical truth and call on the government of the Republic of Poland to take a firm diplomatic stance against Kyiv’s provocations.”
The organizers emphasize that support for Ukraine should not mean, in their view, endorsing the formation of a military identity through references to the OUN-UPA.
A second demonstration under the slogan “Gdańsk Against Banderaism” is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Solidarity Square.
It is organized by Dominik Migawski, a representative of the far-right “Confederation of the Polish Crown” party.
He stated: “The purpose of the event is to express strong opposition to the conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction being held in Gdańsk and to counter the constant, institutional glorification of ‘Banderaism’ and the UPA by the Ukrainian authorities.”
The protests were announced against the backdrop of the URC international conference in Gdańsk, dedicated to Ukraine’s reconstruction and securing international support.
This was reported by Polsat News.
A two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 begins on June 25 in Gdańsk, Poland, and is set to become one of the key international platforms for attracting investment and support for the country’s post-war reconstruction.
On the eve of the event, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed hope that the international Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk would help halt the escalation of tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv.

Following this, Leonid Kuchma declined the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
Ukraine’s third president, Viktor Yushchenko, also declined the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
Furthermore, Borys Tarasyuk will return the Polish order due to Navrotsky’s policies.
