The U.S. has shifted its approach to the war in Ukraine to a more realistic one, according to the G7, says Carney
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that the United States and President Donald Trump have changed their position on the war in Ukraine, and now, in the view of the G7 leaders, it appears more “realistic.”
Over the past 36 hours, he has had seven or eight conversations with Donald Trump, during which they discussed key international issues, including Ukraine, Iran, and Lebanon.
“In discussions regarding Ukraine, we are seeing a shift in the U.S. position, which, in our view, is more realistic given the situation on the battlefield, the possible outcome of the war, and Russia’s defeat,” Carney said.
He also emphasized that there is a “shift in tone” and a reevaluation of approaches to key international issues, including Ukraine.
“There are still many risks, but I would like to highlight the shift in tone and the changing dynamics in Lebanon and Ukraine. These are game-changers,” the Canadian prime minister added.
Carney made these remarks to reporters on the second day of the G7 summit.
Earlier, Canada announced a new package of sanctions against more than 160 entities linked to Russia’s so-called shadow fleet. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made this announcement after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 summit, according to Suspilne.
