Stubb declined to serve as a negotiator with Russia — MTV Uutiset
Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that European leaders must immediately begin diplomatic negotiations with the Russian leadership.
During an official briefing, the head of state emphasized that Ukraine is currently in a strong and advantageous position to initiate such a process.
At the same time, the Finnish leader ruled out his own participation as the chief representative of the European continent at these upcoming meetings.
Alexander Stubb considers the leaders of the so-called E3 group to be the optimal candidates to represent Europe’s interests in the negotiation process.
This group traditionally includes France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
According to the Finnish president, these three powerful states should lead the diplomatic mission, as they possess the necessary political and economic influence on the international stage.
“Personally, I do not see myself as a representative in this matter. I think it is important that the major players—that is, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom—lead this process,” Alexander Stubb stated.
At the same time, the Finnish politician added that smaller countries such as Finland or Norway will not stand on the sidelines and may well provide significant support to pan-European negotiations “behind the scenes.”
The Finnish leader cited the significant strengthening of Kyiv’s defense and geopolitical capabilities as the main argument for intensifying diplomatic efforts.
Currently, conditions are as favorable as possible, allowing for the initiation of dialogue from a position of strength while safeguarding key European security interests.
According to the Finnish leader, delaying this issue only prolongs the resolution of the current security crisis.
