A student from Peru has created a free scholarship search service
Raúl Jauregui Penny, a 22-year-old environmental engineering student from Lima, created “Becas para Migajear,” a free browser-based platform for finding scholarships. According to The Rio Times, in about three months, more than 15,000 young people in Peru, Mexico, and Chile have used the service.
The platform collects open opportunities from governments, universities, and international organizations. Users specify their field of study, location, and level of education, after which the service matches them with opportunities that may be a good fit. Offers can be viewed in a swipe-based format: swipe right to keep in your selection, swipe left to reject.
The service works in a web browser and does not require a mobile app to be installed. The platform uses artificial intelligence to sort and verify listings. However, it does not provide scholarships on its own; rather, it aggregates and filters already published opportunities. Users must submit applications themselves, keep track of deadlines, and prepare the necessary documents.

Hauregui Penny is a student at the Peruvian University of Caetano Heredia. He previously received the Pronabec Beca 18 government scholarship, as well as 15 scholarships and academic exchange opportunities. According to the state agency Andina, the platform’s database previously contained about 200 offers, and the goal was to increase that number to 500. Later, the founder stated that the updated version of the service already offers more than 500 opportunities.
The founder estimates the project’s reach on social media at over 400,000 people. This figure represents the reach of the posts, not the number of platform users.
