Sudan rejects accusations of supporting Ethiopian opposition — Anadolu Agency

In Sudan, the armed forces rejected accusations by the Chief of the Ethiopian General Staff that they support groups opposing the Ethiopian government. In a statement, the Sudanese army called these claims unfounded, Anadolu Agency reports.

Statement by the Sudanese army

The Sudanese Armed Forces stated that the country adheres to international law and the principle of non-interference in the affairs of other states. At the same time, the military stressed that it would not allow threats to Sudan's sovereignty or national security.

The Sudanese army also stated that support for the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues from Ethiopian territory. It claimed that this support includes training, supplies, and military operations involving long-range unmanned aircraft and one-way attack drones.

Statements by Ethiopia and tensions in the north

The Chief of the General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, had earlier accused Sudan, Egypt, and other actors of supporting groups opposed to Ethiopia's government. He also stated that external forces support an alliance of armed and political groups.

According to Jula, the Tigray People's Liberation Front and Eritrea would pose a lesser threat without external support. His statement came amid intensified clashes between Ethiopia's federal forces, the Tigray People's Liberation Front, and groups allied with it in the north of the country. The Sudanese army called on Addis Ababa to resolve differences through dialogue and official channels.
