Trump called Vance and Rubio his "dream team" for the 2028 election
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he considers Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to be a “dream team” for the 2028 presidential election. At the same time, Trump has not officially endorsed either politician and has refrained from directly nominating candidates.
This was reported with reference to The Hill.
The statement sparked debate over whether such a comment signifies the actual start of the election campaign or merely a political assessment of potential successors.
During a speech at an event honoring National Police Week, Trump spoke favorably of Vance and Rubio. He called this duo a “dream team” and described the selection of J.D. Vance as “perfect.”
"Who likes J.D. Vance? Who likes Marco Rubio? Great. Sounds like a good choice," the U.S. president noted.
Trump’s Test
At the same time, he emphasized that his statement does not mean the automatic nomination of both politicians in 2028. According to political strategists, the U.S. president continues to gauge the reaction of the public and donors to potential candidates.
It is noted that this approach—constantly gauging people’s attitudes toward his inner circle—is characteristic of Trump’s political style.
Marco Rubio already ran in the 2016 presidential race but lost the primaries to Donald Trump. He subsequently served in the Senate until joining Trump’s second administration. In December, he stated that he would be “one of the first to support” Vance if he decides to run for president.
JD Vance also served as a senator before becoming vice president. So far, neither politician has officially announced the launch of their own campaign for 2028.
