The administration of US President Donald Trump did not object to the United Kingdom’s decision to impose sanctions on Israeli settlements in the West Bank. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post, citing Axios, US officials and Western diplomats.
Trump’s conversation with the British prime minister
According to Axios, before the sanctions were announced, Trump held a telephone conversation with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham. The publication’s sources said that the US president raised no objections to the planned restrictions and did not ask the British prime minister to change course.
Sources also said that US officials had expressed concerns to their British counterparts about Israel’s actions in the region and the policies of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

Statements by Huckabee and Rubio
The White House distanced itself from statements made by US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee after the sanctions were announced. As an unnamed official told Axios, the diplomat’s comments had not been coordinated with either the White House or the US State Department.
In an interview with the BBC, Huckabee called the United Kingdom’s actions “irrational” and said he did not understand their purpose. He also mentioned Israeli pharmaceutical drugs used in the United Kingdom. According to data from Britain’s National Health Service cited in the publication, approximately one in seven such drugs is produced in Israel.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington would not follow the British decision on new measures related to settlements in the West Bank. He added that the United States does not want the situation in the area to be destabilized.
