Trump arrives in Ireland for a two-day visit
US President Donald Trump arrived in Ireland on Saturday for a two-day visit. The trip’s program includes meetings with Irish leaders and a visit to the Irish Open golf tournament, Dawn reports.
Trump arrived at Dublin Airport shortly before 08:25. He was due to meet Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin and President Catherine Connolly before travelling to his golf resort in Doonbeg on the country’s west coast.
Possible topics of the talks
According to the publication, the topics of the talks may include economic issues and Irish leaders’ concerns about the war in Iran. Trump’s trip will last 48 hours and is taking place at a time when the US Republican Party is campaigning to retain its majority in both chambers of Congress.
Dawn writes that the conflict with Iran has heightened US voters’ economic concerns due to rising gasoline prices. Anti-war and anti-Trump protests are planned in Dublin and western Ireland, near Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg.

US-Ireland relations
Ireland is among the European Union states with the most pro-Palestinian stance. In July, the country passed a law restricting trade in goods from settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. US lawmakers and the US ambassador to Ireland criticized the law.
Micheál Martin told journalists that relations between Ireland and the United States are of great economic importance to both countries. US companies employ around 10% of workers in Ireland, the publication notes.
The Trump Organisation took control of the golf course in Doonbeg in 2014. The Irish Open is taking place there this weekend, and Trump is expected to take part in presenting the trophy to the tournament winner on Sunday.
